BluePrint Geneva, Inc. has received a grant from the Department of Environmental Conservation to manage a 2800 square foot greenhouse for the purpose of growing fresh produce for Geneva residents with limited access to healthy food.

The greenhouse, located in Waterloo, NY is currently managed by a group of volunteers and will continue to have volunteer support. A greenhouse manager is needed to oversee the following efforts:

• Maintain a planting, watering, thinning, and harvesting schedule for 2019-2020
• Assist volunteers in learning the proper procedures for planting, watering, thinning and harvesting greenhouse crops
• Determine best spring-fall growing scenarios for greenhouse space
• Evaluate crop yields and grow times in the greenhouse to maximize useful production of healthy vegetables
• Communicate availability of crops for distribution to food pantry, community lunch program, and neighbors

The ideal candidate will have gardening experience, preferably in a greenhouse setting. Familiarity with use of perlite and vermiculite is a plus. Priority will be given to Geneva residents, especially residents living in wards 5 or 6. A valid driver’s license is preferred, but not required.

This is an independent contracting position for 18 months. You determine your own schedule to meet the project objectives. This contract can be completed during non-traditional work hours, perfect as a second job, or for retirees or students (though applicants must be 18 years of age or older). The contract has a fixed rate of $9000, payable in quarterly increments based on project benchmarks.
